A Month of Letters Challenge 2013 Wrap-Up

I have this anxiety about leaving my house -- as in walking out the door. Unless I'm with Hubs, I have this irrational fear of going out. Some days, I still feel uncomfortable going with him to someplace fun, like the movies. And even though I don't want to go to my various doctor and therapy appointments, because those are definitely not fun, I know I have to and Hubs is kind enough to drive me.
A card I received from Germany that features a power station
that has been transformed into a cultural center.
How cool is that?

So anyway, I thought I'd try to combat this fear by signing up for A Month of Letters Challenge. It takes place in February, and each day that there's mail, you have to send something out. I decided to do this via Postcrossing, which is pretty fun because I like to send and receive postcards from all over the world. Also, you don't need to keep up an ongoing correspondence with the other participants. Nice, huh?

The plan was that I'd write a postcard and go out with Hubs when he left for work, so I could walk partway with him to the train and I could mail my card. And the month started off really well, but then, as you can see on my Letters 2013 page, I totally slacked off about halfway through.

Part of this is because I got tired of writing postcards, especially to complete strangers. Another part is that I just didn't feel like bundling up every morning in Big Red or a more appropriate coat to go out for 5 minutes.

Basically, I bombed the challenge, but whatever. There's always next year, amirite?

  1. It sounds like an interesting challenge, but I would have totally failed it, too. It would have just become another thing I HAD to do. Can you tell I'm feeling stressed right now? ;)
At least you gave it a try, though! That's always the first step.

  2. I think that's awesome - - getting "real" mail (even from a stranger) is so great!!

  3. Hey, at least you tried! Sorry it didn't work out the way you had maybe hoped, but you still pushed yourself to do something you knew would be hard for you. That's a win in my book!

  4. It was, but to be perfectly honest, my heart wasn't really set on it. I did try!

I agree; at least you tried. Hey, it's hard to follow through sometimes even with the best intentions. You know how far I got into Schmutzie's 365 Days of Poetry? 20 Days. 20 pathetic days. lol I told myself I was taking a day off and I'd go right back to it. But one day turned into two...and well...you get the idea. Bombarooni, right? But hey, we're still awesome, aren't we?! :)

  8. That's pretty much what happened. I was like, man it's too cold to go outside. I'll take today off. And the next day, and the next day. But yeah, we are still awesome!

  10. That's true, I did get some really cool postcards. I just like writing several postcards at once when I do Postcrossing instead of writing one. Each. Day. lol

I love postcards! I used to collect some from everywhere I went. But the leaving the house to send things to total strangers? I'm with you on that score!

  12. Very few snail mail anything anymore. I give you credit for that. I've sent postcards from trips but even then I have forgotten and had the postcards left in my suitcase. I do think the postmark is important.

  13. Well, Postcrossing works that way -- you send and receive cards to total strangers, but after a while I just get tired of writing the same things. ;-)
