| Big Red Keeping me warm since 1995 |
So I broke out Big Red. In 1995, I shelled out several hundred dollars for a full-length down parka. Well, maybe it's calf-length, but not so on my 5'1" frame. This red coat resembles a sleeping bag and/or a cocoon. I have no idea how or why Big Red still fits me because I've gained quite a bit of weight in the past 18 years, but I don't question it.
Big Red is my traveling coat. If I walk or take public transportation in the winter, I can rely on Big Red to keep me warm. People may snicker, but I can see how cold they are, with their shoulders touching their ears in an exaggerated shrug and their feet stamping the ground like angry horses, trying to keep warm usually in the name of fashion. But me, I can walk right past them, shoulders relaxed and head held high because I'm toasty. Fashion has no place in a Chicago winter.
Too bad the post office doesn't open until 11am.

If I lived in Chicago I would wear a coat like that all. the. time. And WTH, Post Office? 11 am?
ReplyDeleteIt does look a little like arms on a sleeping bag.
ReplyDeleteHAhah that thing is awesome!! I would totally give you a huge hug and that thing-it looks so warm!!
ReplyDeleteI know! And closed on Saturdays! Google even said it opened at 8! But it's just one of those teeny branches, so maybe it's part of the overall USPS downsizing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's how it was invented: "Hey, let's cut off the feet end of the sleeping bag and use that material to add arms!"
ReplyDeleteIt totally is! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBig Red is awesome! I totally need a coat like that! My green down coat stops at the waist. It's cute, but not practical for a Chicago winter!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks! It was definitely money well spent. I'm wearing sweats and just a t-shirt under that! I definitely need the length if I have to walk. It's kind of hard to drive in, even though it has one of those zippers that opens from both ends.
ReplyDeleteBig Red looks like a perfect coat for a Chicago winter. I have a down one from LL Bean a few years ago, but it is soooo warm that I can only wear it one or two days as I start to sweat and get over heated. Especially in the subway.
ReplyDeleteThat is a seriously big coat. I want one just like it for work - I'm tired of being cold.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how it is! After walking a few blocks, I feel all sweaty. That's why I'm wearing just a t-shirt on top in the pic. lol
ReplyDeleteThere are few things I hate more than being cold. My sister got one more recently from North Face.
