| It's Friday again, which means it's time for Friday Fragments (click the badge!), hosted by Mrs. 4444 (pronounced "Fours") at Half-Past Kissin' Time. So here's what's up this week: |
Christmas
Hubs and I traveled to Iowa to visit his family for Christmas on the weekend before Christmas. I was pretty sick, but soldiered on! I only wish I could have played with my 21-month-old niece, but I didn't want to spread the germs. We stayed in Galena, Illinois, on the way there and back, where we saw some wild turkeys right outside our door! We spent Christmas Day at home together as planned, but sick, which was not planned. My side of the family, which consists of my sister and her husband (everyone else lives out West), will be celebrating this weekend. I hope no one is sick!
The Autographed John Taylor (Duran Duran) Autobiography
On one of my previous Frags, I mentioned that I saw this at a local, independent book store and crowed so much about it that I was afraid Hubs would give it to me for Christmas. Well...I was right! He got it for me as kind of a joke gift, but it was a surprisingly good read and brought back lots of memories of my early teenage years. A definite must-read for any Duran Duran fan, past or present. But Hubs really surprised me with a pair of shoes he knew that I've had my eyes on! I was totally impressed.
Bipolar/Anxiety Update
The light box seems to be helping quite a bit. I have more energy in the mornings, but this seems to wane as the day goes on. I guess that's normal, but I feel tired too early in the day. I suspect this is the side effect of the increased dose of my anti-depressant (Pristiq). I'll be able to tell more in the next week or 2.
Also, I came across this excellent article for people who have bipolar disorder: Coping Strategies for Bipolar Disorder. It's also a good reference article for family and friends.
Have a Happy New Year!!!

I always wondered how the light boxes would help. I have SAD so badly.
ReplyDeleteDuran Duran... I just went back to the 80's :) Loved "Reflex"
The light boxes use a special type of bulb that imitates the sun's rays. They aren't UV rays, but something called lumens. When I was researching what type to get and asked my friends on FB, everyone who has one says it helps them. They come in so many different sizes and price ranges, and you can also get them at Costco. I hope this helps!
DeleteMy Monday post is going to be all about 80s fashion. :)
Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Me, too! :)
DeleteIt's nice you have a husband who picks up on those "not so subtle" comments! lol
ReplyDeleteLet the light shine!!
Lol! Hubs is something else. He always surprises me. The light box is shining on me as I type this!
DeleteIt's so nice when they get something you really want! I hope you feel better soon and am glad the light box is helping!
ReplyDeleteIt's very nice, definitely. I'm glad the light box is helping, too. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw the real sun here in Chicago.
Delete"Hungry Like the Wolf" is a great Duran Duran song. I don't have much of a collection of their other stuff.
ReplyDeleteHope the light box keeps working for you.
Happy New Year
That was the first song of theirs I ever heard! As a young teen I had a huge collection of all of their records. That's right, records!
DeleteHappy New Year, to you, too!
My hubby has found tanning booths helpful in the long darker days of winter, he has SAD and depression too.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE seeing wild turkeys. There is a semi-rural road here in town and we often see them there.
SAD and depression are more common than people think. I hadn't thought about using a tanning booth. I'm glad they've helped Fisherhubby.
DeleteIn Chicago the only wildlife we see are pigeons and squirrels. Once we saw a rat in the alley -- eep! We do occasionally see robins in the spring.
hope everyone is well by now...stinks being sick over the holidays....
ReplyDeletemy husband bought my cutco knives...sounds like a terrible gift, but it was soo what I wanted!!
and thanks for the reference article.
I am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.
happy New year!!
We are definitely at the tail ends of our colds, but we can't seem to shake them completely. It's so frustrating! I've had this thing for almost 2 weeks now.
DeleteI'm so glad you got what you wanted! When Hubs asked me what I wanted, the only thing I could think of was a Dyson vaccuum cleaner. He seemed so offended when I told him and replied, "What?! I'm not getting you a vaccuum. We aren't old people!" Whatever that means. Hahaha!
I follow back people who follow me and are actively blogging. :)
Happy New Year to you and yours!!!
